Characteristics of Bulk-storage:

Because of optimal direct contact between stored product and ventilation-air,

1. there will be a very effective drying and cooling. A fast process of drying and cooling will reduce diseases.
2. And there will be a better temperature-control too, which is important to conserve product quality for a long-time storage-period.
3. Another advantage of bulk storage will be the equalized temperature and humidity through the whole batch. This will result in less condensation-spots and will reduce diseases and degeneration of the stored products.
4. The optimal distribution of ventilated air through the product, enables the application of anti-sprouting chemicals (for potatoes). So, this will reduce the quantity of chemicals required.

Standard equipment for bulk-storage:
Fans, Insulated Inlet & Outlet Hatches, Hatch Automation, Air-distribution system (chamber and tunnels), Temperature-control and Switchboard, Cooling-machines. Humidification-machines are optional, depending on the stored product and the local climate;

Characteristics  of Storage in boxes & bags:

Because of less direct contact between the stored product and the ventilation-air,

1. the producttemperature control will be more difficult in the situation  of roomventilation. 
2. But, at the same time,  storage-diseases will not easily spread out through the whole storage.
3. Storage in Boxes and Bags makes  it possible to store different  types and  species and gradings in one storage.
4. In most cases you don’t need heavy walls for the storage-building. Although you will have to invest in the boxes. Boxes and bags can be handled by forklift. 
5. And it will be possible to load and unload the storage in small batches.

Standard equipment for roomventilation

• Alt 1: Fans built in simple ventilation chambers (wall or ceiling), outside and inside ventilation-air (Inlet & Outlet Hatches), temperature-control, sensors and switchboard. Electrical installation. Humidifiers are optional.
   
• Alt 2: Turnkey Cooling machines (Air-inlethatch and fans and cooling are mounted together),  outlet hatches,  electronic temperature  control, sensors and switchboard. Electrical installation. Humidifiers are optional.
   
• Alt 3: Heavy duty Pressure Chambers with built-in fans for through and through ventilation of palletboxes.  In this particular situation the palletboxes need very orderly  be stacked in a row.  In fact, this is not roomventilation.  Air inlet and outlet hatches, temp.control, sensors and switchboard and electrical installation are needed as well.
   
• Alt 4: Potato Decondensation Units.  Fans in airmix chamber  and inlet+ outlet hatches,   control-unit, sensors and switchboard.
